Trends are still here in 2024

Starting the year off with some good trends

Trends are something that come fast and often go away quickly if you don’t jump on them in a timely manner. They consist of music and fashion, mixed in with opinions and actions to really set a tone for a fast change and add to our culture. Trends are nothing new for us in 2024 but since they do add to social interaction in the present and especially online they are something that deserve some time and attention.

As we continue more into January and 2024 we can start to see some trends that have begun to become popular across the social media platforms.

The first trend takes us back to 2023 where it started but did indeed cross over into 2024 with us, and has not stopped in January. This trend is where creators and others on Social Media post their Ins and Outs for 2024. This trend started on Tik Tok and did eventually show up on Instagram. A lot of the Ins consisted of items like, exercise more, travel to new places, and say yes more. Some of the Outs were, not getting enough sleep, worrying too much, procrastinating and not reading. Although this trend did come from 2023 I would consider it a new  trend, since It continued over and really has to do with lifestyle and actions in 2024. However, with this trend we need to keep in mind that it is all opinions and that it changes from creator to creator.

The next trend has been really popular these last few weeks since temperatures around the country have plummeted and snow has stared to fall more. This trend consists of an expert of ‘Frozen Heart’ from the Disney movie Frozen. In the video it has students walking to class in the cold weather or walking to some sort of event, the store, or outing they have to go to. The trend typically has some sort of text on there that states “what’s it like walking to (fill in the activity) in the winter” or something along those lines. The trend has acted as a fun way to bring everyone together through the cold and show that it’s like walking around outside in the snow, ice and wind. This trend may be one that sticks around a little bit longer since we are in the heart of winter and the cold season.

Another trend that is very popular right now is the dance and the song Cha Cha. Wether or not you know the dance the song is very popular. It could be good to use on any video to help gain views, likes, and even followers. Which that is the thing about trends. The music or sound attached to the video is the one that typically goes viral. If you can use it on your platform to any piece of content you make the better. It may be more beneficial to use the sound than to not use it at all. Just because you may not know the dance or have access to the contents of the video doesn’t mean you can’t create your own video to go with the sound. That is what I do some times when making content for the CSU Tik Tok.

Now the last pieces of content creation that have been very popular for the past couple of years and are still being made in 2024 are the Get Ready with Me (GRWM), Outfit of the Day (OOTD) and Day in the Life videos. Technically by definition these are not trends because they have been used for years and trends typically change and go within a short period of time. However, as someone who is in content creation I would say that GRWM and OOTD videos are still trends and trendy even years later. I would have to say that it is because of the creators who are more influential almost celebrity type that are still constantly producing these videos. Another reason to why there are so popular and continue to be is that they are a good way to get into making content if you don’t know where to begin.

Through trends we get an insight on where the digital culture is and what people are viewing and consuming. As content creators at higher education trends help us relate to students more. We use them to build that connection of education (college in our instance) and social and digital. Through trends we get the excitement of something new along with making it relevant to our audience to bridge the potential gap of culture and school.

As we continue more into 2024 new trends will definitely arise and will add to the social media scene just like the ones talked about have. Trends are an easy way to jump into content creation you just got to act quick because they go fast and are constantly changing.
